Stumble Away, In Any Browser

October 19, 2008  |  Awesome Apps

StumbleUpon is one of my favorite things about the Internet- not to mention the most detrimental to my productivity. I love using it to find great new websites, cool new stuff to check out, and to see what else is going on in the Web universe.

For a long time, though, using StumbleUpon well was limited to Firefox. I’ve quickly become a Chrome convert, and sorely missed being able to use StumbleUpon, so I went searching for ways to do it, and found two. To use either of these two, you’ll need to login to StumbleUpon here.

The first is to navigate, in any browser, to  http://www.stumbleupon.com/demo/#url .You’ll see the cool new toolbar, and can start stumbling! There’s no way to save any pages to your StumbleUpon profile, but you can do the Stumbling right from that toolbar. It’ll stumble, with the above URL always in the address bar.

The second way to do it is fairly obvious: bookmark the above link. Then, simply click it when you want to start stumbling. You can stumble from any page, with one click of a button.  To bookmark the link, drag this to your bookmarks, or bookmark it in IE by right-clicking: Stumble.

If you ever want to submit a link to StumbleUpon, go here. (This one’s a good one to submit :) ).

Using these tricks are far from complete- they don’t let you save pages easily, or get your results filtered based on your profile. They are, however, a solid way to tide yourself over until there’s more complete support for your browser. If you’re using Firefox, StumbleUpon’s toolbar can be downloaded here

As always, I’m looking for cool stuff you Stumble, or cool ways you use StumbleUpon. Share ‘em in the comments.

  • @Lars- Thanks! I found them at www.smashingmagazine.com. They have tons of great stuff, and I love it because it's so unlike what you find on most other blogs.
