Is it Wrong to Bet On the Election?

November 2, 2008  |  Awesome Apps

There are only two days left until the US presidential election, and it’s a critical one. I won’t get all political on you, but suffice it to say that if you can vote, DO.

If you’re a gamer, or a betting man (betting on the president is AWESOME), there are a couple of resources out there to help you figure out who in the world is going to win this election.

Polls lie and misunderstand, but they’re one take on the current tide of the election. There are great ways to see the direction the political tide is turning, and Electoral-Vote.com is my new favorite

Electoral-Vote.com is the perfect place to go to get all the election info you need. The first thing you’ll see on the site is a blue and red map, with states ranked from “Strong Dem” to “Strong GOP”. These are based on polls, and give a projected number of electoral votes for each presidential candidate, as well as the number of Senate and House seats each party is projected to win.

Apparently there’s currently a tie in a House race- a tie? What happens in a perfect tie?

Further down the page, there’s a state-by-state look at what Tuesday’s going to look like. Done by Chuck Todd from MSNBC, it looks at what’s going to happen and what it’s going to mean in all 50 states. Including Alaska.

The rest of the page is full of news and polls about both candidates, bits and pieces that talk about where the election is going right now. There’s a look at all the various polls, as well as new endorsements, major news, etc.

Clicking around the wesite, you can see funny politics jokes (those exist?), in-depth looks at every House and Senate Rase, as well as tons of data that went into creating the map on the front page.

The thing I love about Electoral-vote.com is that it’s as detailed or simple as you want it to be. You can figure out what’s going on in 5 seconds by looking at the map, or spend hours learning even more. It’s a great site, and a great way to figure out just what might happen this coming Tuesday.

Check out Electoral-vote.com here.

How did the Web affect your vote, or how you saw the election? This one’s a big one, and it’s one of the first in the age of Web-dominance. Did that change anything? Let us know in the comments.
