You already know you can search Google to find web pages. But from that one, simple box, you can do so much more.

Here are nine things you can find, right from the Google Search Box:

1. Flight Status Type, for instance, “Continental Flight 852″. You’ll get the status, departure and arrival time, and a link to the airline’s page.

2. Conversions Google is a full calculator, and can convert just about any kind of currency, amount, metrics, or what have you. They usually work like you’d think- “16 pounds in ounces” converts it. Here’s a full list of the conversion operators.

3. Find Similar Stuff Simply put a ~ in front of your search. “~Food” (without the quotations) will find results for food, cooking, recipes, and the like.

4. Movie Times Type “Movies” followed by your zip code to get movie times in your zip code, or the title of the movie followed by your zip code to find where that film is playing nearby.

5. Music To find songs to download, enter this into the search bar, once you change the part in quotes to your artist or song:

inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +size +(mp3|aac) “artist or song title”

6. Track Packages Enter your package’s tracking number into the Search box, and Google will track your package to where it is, when it’s going to arrive, and how it’s going.

7. Site Search You can search within a particular site right from Google. For instance, “site:the20life.com firefox” will bring up all references to Firefox on this site. Put any site after the “site:” operator, and you can do site searches right from Google.

8. Definitions There are two ways to do this: first, you can simply type a word, and then click the “definition” link at the top right of the page. Or, type “define:yourword”, and it’ll bring up all the various definitions of the word in the search results.

9. Search By File Type To find a particular file on the Internet, narrow it down with the “filetype:” operator. To find manuals, try typing “yourgadget filetype:pdf” to get all the pdf results for that particular site or gadget.

For even more searching goodness, try these three links.
