Over the last few weeks, there’ve been a number of cool new changes here at The 2.0 Life. In an effort to share them with you and viciously promote the cool new features of the blog, I want to also show you a few cool new things for your own blog, should you have one.
Here are three small, but cool, changes you can make to your own blog to make it even better.
1. Gravatars A Gravatar is an image that is associated online with your email address. On any blog, including this one, that supports Gravatars, you’ll be able to leave an image with your comment, just by providing your email address. It makes for a more attractive, professional blog, and is really useful for promoting your own brand as well. To add Gravatars to your blog, check out the Wordpress plugin.
2. Mobile Site Most websites don’t look good on a small screen like the iPhone’s. However, using the WPTouch plugin for Wordpress, that problem can be solved. It turns your blog into a great looking mobile site that’s easy to access and read. Are you on an iPhone? Go to www.the20life.com and check it out.
3. Favicon A Favicon is a tiny icon that represents your blog, mostly in the tab section of a browser. See the “2.0″ at the top of your browser, on the tab or window you’re viewing this in? That’s a favicon. It makes blogs look more professional, creates a more coherent brand, and makes for sweet iPhone bookmarks, like this one. For more on how to create one, try Make Use Of.
4. What Would Seth Godin Do? If you don’t know who Seth Godin is, check him out. His namesake plugin for Wordpress is pretty great too- it allows you to display a welcome message to newcomers, based on site data and cookies. It’s nice for welcoming new visitors, directing them, or asking them to subscribe or comment. It’s a great feature, and one all blogs would do well to use.
Those are a few of the new things you’ll see on The 2.0 Life, which I’m hoping make this site a better, easier and more attractive place. They’re also great for any blogger, and I highly recommend each.
