You’ve decided to buy a computer. You want an Acer computer. That’s a good start, but where do you go from there?
Whether you’re buying a computer or something else, odds are Amazon’s one of the first places you’re going to look. Amazon isn’t necessarily the best place to search, though, to try and find the best product. If you know exactly what it is that you want, Amazon can’t be beat. If all you know is that you want a computer with 2GB RAM and super-duper long battery life, you might be out of luck.
That’s where Spectackler is trying to help. The name is Spec-tackler, but it’s also uncannily easy to use for “spectacular”. What it does is try to match the specs you’re looking for with the Amazon product you want.
To use Spectackler, you first pick a category, something like “Notebooks” for your cool Acer laptop. Then, pick a price range using the sliders on the left side of the page. Weed out the bad products with the ratings slider, pick a brand, color and manufacturer if you’re so inclined, and spec it to your heart’s content.
You can include as many or as few features as you want, but the site gets better the more you give it. One of my favorite things about Spectackler is that you pick a minimum and maximum for each spec- an easy way to weed out the too-cheap and too-expensive all at once.
The page updates, without needing a Page Refresh, every time you change one of the sliders. You can also click on a single listing to find out its exact specs, to give you a better idea of what to include and exclude from your searches. Once you’ve narrowed it down to the ones you want, you’ll be in great shape to find the product you’re looking for. Once you find the one you want, click the link to go to the page, or just click “Buy” to purchase it from Amazon.
If you’re looking for more direct comparison, try clicking the stars on a few different products. You can then compare them, side-by-side, and figure out what’s really for you.
You can also bookmark any given Spectackle, send them to your friends, or save them to your profile for future reference.
If computers aren’t your cup of tea, fear not: there are a ton of categories you can try. Just about any electronic you can think of can be found- digital cameras are a particularly useful one. The more specs a given electronic has, the more you’re going to want to use Spectackler.
Once Spectackler allows you to compare from sites other than Amazon (Newegg would be a great addition), it’s got a shot at being your one-stop comparison shop. Until then, it’s a great place to browse, shop, and get exactly the right thing from Amazon.
