4 Ways to Put Stickies On Your Desktop

73765770_3c0815e3b6One of the most popular ways to write the little notes to yourself that come up during the day is Post-It notes, or sticky notes of some sort. They’re as ubiquitous as any office tool- Romy and Michelle invented them, Bruce put his prayers on them, and odds are you’ve got some lying around.

Like just about anything else, managing sticky notes on your computer can have a number of benefits- they’re easier to access, organize and edit; they’re easier to find; they make less of a mess; they serve all the same purposes with none of the annoying side effects.

Here are four great, free, simple ways to get sticky notes on your computer (without any residue marks):

Stickies

With Stickies, you can write a note, stick it on your desktop, and be done with it. Or, you can create a reminder to make it pop up when you need to see it, color them, make lists, or even attach notes to an email. You can resize the notes, use them on multiples monitors, or customize how they all look. Creating, editing, hiding and showing notes are all as easy as can be.

Post-It Software Notes Light

Despite the truly atrocious name, Post-It Software Notes Light from 3M is a great sticky notes app for you loyalists out there (3M makes the Post-its you know and love). There aren’t any notable features to speak of, but creating and deleting notes is dead simple. You can resize images, or set an alarm for a particular note. The beauty of this application is the ability to create new notes with one click in system tray- perfect for the scatterbrain who doesn’t want to get off track.

StickIt

NoteEditor

Social sticky notes: who knew? With StickIt, you create a note in an editor, and you can share them with other StickIt users. If you want something to just hold your notes, StickIt’s reputed instability might be an issue; the sharing features are perfect, though, for couples and colleagues. If you’re connected to another user, you can even create a note on their desktop! Warning: pranking may ensue.

TK8 EasyNote

EasyNote is probably the most feature-rich of the bunch when it comes to sticky note applications. You can move, resize, hide and show notes, and EasyNote remembers their position every time you reopen the app. One nice feature is the automatic reloading of selected notes on Windows startup, which a surprising number of applications don’t do well. Notes can also be colored by priority, which gives you the at-a-glance views of what you need to remember.

All of these applications do the basics: create and store sticky notes on your desktop. They’re all free, easy to use, and make adding notes easy. The difference between the four is whether or not you want added features- reminders, colors, sharing, etc.

If all you want is the notes that used to sit on your desk, stick with 3M’s offering. If you’re looking for a bit more, check out a couple of the other applications.

Are you a stickies fanatic? What do you do with them?
