There’s lots of interesting, deep, profound, and newsworthy stuff happening on the Internet every day. Decisions are made, money changes hands, and the world gets a little more connected.
And every day, someone, somewhere, tries to pay their outstanding bills with a drawing of a spider.
Luckily for all of us, those moments are being captured for us by Digg-like PopJam, a great new way to track funny memes and moments from around the Web.
PopJam works in a similar way to sites like Digg or Reddit: users upload things they found funny, and PopJam users vote them up, giving them an “LOL” if they found that particular item funny. There’s also a space for commenting, as well as easy ways to link to that post elsewhere.
At the top of the list right now? Our friend, David Thorne, paying his $233.95 bill with a drawing of a spider. There’s also a motivational poster that’s better shown than explained:
There’s more funny stuff being added to PopJam every day, and my hunch is that’s going to be a great place to catch all the funny, viral stuff being sent around the Internet. The funniest material, or at least the thing most people find funny (not always the same, in my experience…) floats to the top of the list, and to the top of the PopJam page.
The community is still small (the most-liked item ever only has 45 LOLs), but after today’s Launch Party, the site’s going to get a lot bigger, a lot faster. The site only went live two days ago, so don’t blame it too much. There’s already some great material on the site, including my current favorite featuring John Locke and the Web.
PopJam is also on Twitter, with a stream of hilarious links mixed in with PopJam news.
As PopJam gets bigger and bigger, it’s poised to become like Digg, only not as geek-happy. It’ll just be funny-happy.
If you’re looking for a laugh, or something to share with your friends so you can seem innovative and hilarious, you soon won’t need to look past PopJam.
Where do you look for the funniest of the WWW?
