Create Your Personal Site With Chi.mp (+5 Beta Invites)

home_billboard I debated for a pretty long time creating my own, personal website. It would be a place with my resume, my experience, links to all the places you can find me online, and so on and so forth.

Unfortunately, I seem to have about the most popular name on the planet. Every domain name even remotely similar to my name was taken, so I was about to give up. Then, I somehow scored a Beta invite to chi.mp.

chi.mp is a free, personalized hub for all of your information. It holds links, contacts, personal information, and all kinds of other things. It’s easy to set up and use, and is a great option for anyone looking to have a personal hub on the Web.

To start, you’ll register a domain name, ending in .mp. Mine is davidpierce.mp, and is a work in progress, but feel free to come check it out. Once you get a domain name, you’ll start inputting information. You can input a resume, an “About Me” page, and even link any RSS feed to your page. For instance, I have my bookmarks tagged “portfolio” feeding to chi.mp, which means you can, at a glance, get a look at all the different places I’m writing, other than here.

There’s space for a mini-blog on chi.mp, if you’re interested in making it a blog as well. You can use it as a photo blog, or even use chi.mp to update your Facebook and Twitter profiles.

The biggest draw to chi.mp is how simple it is to use: you just input whatever information you want to, choose who gets to see it- you can group your contacts into “Work” and “Friends” and show each one different information, as well as have other information for “Public” profiles – and you’re set. There’s some customization available, but chi.mp’s defaults are both simple and easy to navigate and use.

Chi.mp is a free, simple way to create a personal hub online: it can be a business card, a resume, a multi-social network page, or just another place to put your Twitter feed.

The best way to get to know chi.mp is just to take a look. Chi.mp is still in private beta, but I’ve got 5 beta invites to give away. To get an invite, just comment below. In 24 hours, I’ll randomly pick 5 commenters (or just give them to the 3 who comment, and keep 2 for myself), and send you beta invites. If I ever get more, I’ll pass them on too!

  10. Hey all,

I've sent out the five invites I had. I'm sorry to not have more to give them to you all, but I couldn't get more from chi.mp, as apparently they had none. For those who got an invite (based on a random numbers game), enjoy! For those who didn't, sorry, and stay tuned! Chi.mp isn't far from being publicly released.

  13. This might be a good idea for me, since I am trying to launch my website in the next week or two. It is going to be a small business sight, where I will sell and give away scroll saw plans.
