The Daily Beast is quickly becoming one of my favorite news websites. It’s purely online, walking in the large footsteps of the Huffington Post. It’s a well-organized, well-written site with a lot of great news, both original stories and aggregated from news sites around the Web.

The thing I love the most about the Daily Beast is that it just gets how more and more people read the news; people want it faster, simpler, quicker, and better. To satisfy that niche, the Daily Beast has two great features: the Cheat Sheet and the Big Fat Story.

The Cheat Sheet

One page, with all the best news from around the Web. The Cheat Sheet features ten stories, of all different types, stories and genres, that are worth reading. It’s a perfect way to get a sense of exactly what’s going on around the Web. You can sign up to get the Cheat Sheet in your email every morning, or just go have a look whenever you want to. You can comment on any of the stories, or share them with your friends.

If all you’ve got is a few minutes and you want to be a jack of all trades on the day’s news cycle, the Cheat Sheet’s the way to go.

The Big Fat Story

Every day, there’s one issue that seems to dominate the news. Everyone’s talking about it, everyone’s got an opinion, and it seems to be the thing most discussed thing around the water cooler at work.

The Big Fat Story from the Daily Beast is here to help you. The page is there to show you what the issue is that everyone’s talking about, and to give you a bunch of different articles about it. Different perspectives are shown from a variety of different publications. In the middle of the page is a brief summary of the issue, and branching off are a number of different articles.

The Big Fat Story ranges among topics – everything from Populist Rage and AIG to The 6 New Rules of College Admissions. Check it every day, and you’re sure to get a quick sense of what the hot debate for the day is going to be.

If all you have is a couple of minutes, check out the Daily Beast. You’ll learn a lot about broad-ranging topics, and get infused with the knowledge to sound brilliant and knowledgeable at work or at play.
